 WRITING REPORTS, REPORTING EVENTS

Report-Writing

Writing reports or reporting events like accidents, games and sports, meetings, festivals is done essentially in the same technique. Some broad points are given and students are asked to write a report on them. The best and easiest way to write a report based on the given point is to connect the different points in a logical way with suitable connectors or phrases so to make a meaningful passage. A report should be written in simple language to enable it to be easily understood. The basic rule of writing a report is that the sentences should be written in the passive voice as far as possible. (Report লেখার সময় verb গুলি অধিকাংশ সময়ে passive voice - করা হয়।)

NEWSPAPER REPORTING

REPORTING ANY NEWS IN THE NEWSPAPER NEEDS

A newspaper reporting requires a special register i.e. wording or expressions used by a reporter of the newspaper.

Ø While writing Newspaper Report avoids articles in the heading.

Ø A heading-Very short and informative to catch the attention of the reader.

Ø Write (By a Staff Reporter) or (From Our Correspondent) or Statesman News Service.

Ø Place, date of reporting at the start, viz Kolkata, Jan. 2

Ø Include facts. You can do this by answering the 5 Ws: what, when, who, where, why?

Ø Use the past form of the verbs (because the events have already happened).

Ø Use third-person pronouns (he, she, it, they)

Ø Use indirect speech.

Ø Use paragraphs to help the reader clearly understand the information.

Ø Provide quotes to show people’s opinions about the event.

Last but not least “practice makes a man perfect”, read the daily newspaper as much as possible to build your vocabulary and its application to master the art of report writing.

A doctor, who was passing by in another car, drove Hema to the hospital. Dr Shiv Sharma said the actress was in pain and had suffered injuries to her eyes, back and legs. "She was constantly saying, Please drive faster," he recalled.

The Alto was coming from the opposite direction and was taking a turn when it collided with Hema's car around 8.50pm, a Dausa district official said.
